The North American Hockey Academy

Combining Excellence in Education and Athletics

The North American Hockey Academy, located in Stowe, Vermont, is a hockey program for elite and developmental female athletes in grades 9-12 as well as Post-Graduates. This program is for girls who seek to play hockey at the Division I or III varsity level in college, and for a select few, whose goal is to play on National Teams. It combines a high performance training program with an unparalleled competitive experience. The training program integrates both on and off-ice training with an athletic instructional program including sports nutrition, strength training and sports psychology overseen by our sports med doctor.

While in our program, student-athletes attend our Academy. The NAHA is fully recognized secondary-school by the Vermont State Board of Education with an excellent reputation and college placement record. Our traditional 'Winter-Season' program runs from October into March, allowing students to remain at home in the Fall and Spring with their families and in their home town schools. While at the Academy, they continue to follow their home school's curriculum in a 1-on-1 tutorial program for our student-athletes. This one-on-one teaching works well for gifted student as well as those who may need extra attention in a subject area.

We also offer a Full-Year option for academics and athletics in response to many inquiries from families. While our traditional program will remain the core program with the majority of the participants, our Full-Year program has become very popular for girls who seek an experience with excellent academics and a well-rounded experience outside the classroom.

While at NAHA the girls reside in the reside in our dorm. NAHA moved to its new campus in the early summer of '06, previously being located a few miles up the road. At the new campus, athletes are housed in the dorm, a self-contained facility that includes several common areas, a hot tub and sauna room, full commercial kitchen and dining facilities as well as the school. Located on 5 acres right on the famous Mountain Road in the town better known for its ski history, the facilities include a heated outdoor pool and also off ice facilities for skills development.

Plans are underway for the construction of a field house to accommodate many of the other professionals that work with NAHA including strength and conditioning coaches, a training room, and more facilities for use both in season and during summer camps.

While academic and athletic achievement are core to NAHA's philosophy, so is providing a well rounded experience, ultimately preparing the student-athletes for their college experience and life beyond hockey. Each year NAHA gives back to the community through some community service project, such as the crew below who participated in the Relay for Life at UVM, raising money for the American Cancer Socitey.
