3/6/08- NAHA grads have big impact as freshmen at Amherst College:

Currently second among conference rookies and fourth overall in scoring, the first-year forward has a team-leading 30 points with 12 goals and 18 assists while seeing action in all 25 of the Jeffs’ games. Hanlon and company posted a 12-0-4 record in NESCAC play this season en route to a second-place finish in the standings, a program best. Hanlon was tabbed the NESCAC Player of the Week earlier this season for recording three goals and an assist during a perfect 2-0 weekend for the Lord Jeffs.

...Rounding out the Amherst All-NESCAC honorees is first-year Randi Zukas (Glen Head, NY). Zukas has contributed one goal and 12 assists on defense, placing her tied for fifth in the conference in defenseman scoring and eighth in first-year scoring.
2/18/08- NAHA Red wins third consecutive NAPHA Championship with a 3-1 victory over NSA.
The North American Hockey Academy captured their third straight NAPHA championship on Monday, February 18th with a 3-1 decision over the National Sports Academy.
NAHA opened up the scoring about midway through the first period when Lauren Jones took a pass from Rose Giarrusso in the neutral zone and cut to the middle before firing a wrist shot that beat NSA goaltender Carly Dominick-Sobel to the glove side. NSA tied the game 1:42 into the second period on a goal by Linda Eckardt. Jamie Goldsmith and Sydney Williams assisted on the goal that was created by a steal behind the NAHA net.
NAHA then scored 2 goals late in the 2nd period to give the Winterhawks some breathing room. Jones scored her second of the game to give NAHA the lead again off a cycle low in NSA's end. Giarrusso reveresed the puck to Melissa Bizzari who found Jones alone on the short side of the net uncovered. Julie Ingratta scored an insurance goal 2 minutes later on the powerplay with a great pass from Nona Letuligasenoa. The Winterhawks were using the top of the umbrella for much of their offense on their powerplays early and caught NSA leaning that way when Letuligasenoa fired a pass to Ingratta uncovered on a backdoor play.
NAHA could not put NSA away in the third with Dominick-Sobel coming up big time after time. NSA was also kept at bay with NAHA keeper Kortney Roy making a number of big stops. The game itself was fast and furious throughout with both teams playing wide-open looking to pressure their opponent into mistakes. The level and style of play was a great showcase for the league.
To get to the finals NSA beat the Northwood School 5-1 and NAHA topped the Nichols School 3-2 in overtime on a goal by Jill Cardella.
2/3/08- For the past several years, the folks at NAHA had been contemplating starting a league for competitive female athletes with similar philosophies to NAHA, as well as an event that mirrored the boy's Memorial Cup for juniors in Canada. During the summer of '07 NAHA and the Pride were in conversations about many things, and the result was the birth of the Junior Women's Hockey League. This weekend the JWHL had its first league playoff in Surrey BC, and it was a huge success, and bodes well for the JWHL becoming the pioneers in bringing girl's hockey for this level to new heights!!

1/16/08-Courtney Hanlon Named NESCAC Player of the Week
AMHERST, MA – Amherst College first-year forward Courtney Hanlon (Fullerton, CA) was tabbed the NESCAC Women’s Ice Hockey Player of the Week for recording three goals and an assist during a perfect 2-0 weekend for the Lord Jeffs. Hanlon becomes the second member of her team to earn the Player of the Week nod this season. Friday evening against Colby College, Hanlon scored both Amherst goals in a 2-1 win over the White Mules. Saturday afternoon, she assisted on what proved to be the game-winner before scoring a shorthanded goal in the third period of a 4-0 win over Bowdoin College.
The pair of victories pushed the Jeffs’ winning streak to seven games, a stretch during which Amherst has outscored opponents 35-4. Hanlon has recorded at least one point in each of the past seven games to bring her season totals to eight goals and 11 assists for 19 points. While her 11 assists are the most among Amherst players and third most in the NESCAC, her 19 points are second on the team and second among all first-years in the conference.

Curiosity about the Academy led to a deluge of info about it and its myriad Alaska connections.
