The first annual National Honor Society Induction Ceremony was held on Wednesday, January 25, 2006.  The Keynote Speaker was former Vermont Governor and United States Ambassador to Switzerland Madeleine M. Kunin.  Governor Kunin spoke on women’s initiatives and opportunities in Vermont, and around the world, and how opportunities for women have changed dramatically over the past 30 years.  She encouraged the [female] students to do things in life that will make a difference, such as vote, work for a candidate, or campaign for public office, and let them know they can achieve great things in their lifetimes.

The National Honor Society is a national organization sponsored by the National Association of Secondary School Principals to recognize high school students for outstanding achievement in the areas of scholarship, leadership, character and service.  NAHA’s chapter of the NHS was named after Governor Kunin because of her work furthering opportunities and opening doors for women.
